We celebrated Christmas and New Years with Papa and Mimi to welcome in 2011. It was a wonderful time together, with great company! The weather was nice, so much time was spent outside playing soccer with William and all of us passing Griggs around, taking turns snuggling. Papa and Mimi loved on the boys and laughed and played the time away. Only problem, just too short a visit! It was so sweet to watch William open presents pretty much for everyone! He loved the excitement of ripping the paper and discovering the gift. After the presents had all been opened and inspected, we had fun playing with the new trucks and toys. William spent time with Griggs, showing him how to "play". It was a tender time to watch.
We enjoyed our time, celebrated and ate a delicious "Chef Philip and Chef Mimi" meal to ring in the new year. Also, a treat of company for our New Years Day, Hunter and Whitney joined us for dinner of black eyed peas, greens and pork. It was great having them join us for dinner. William kept everyone entertained with his toys and games and conversations. Oh, his conversations are priceless! I love how his little mind works... So thankful for that sweet blessing! All too soon, we were hugging everyone goodbye, taking pictures and wishing them a safe trip on the long drive home.

Celebrating Christmas 2010 ~ Granddaddy, Maggie, Hunter & Holden
Continuing on with Christmas, we packed up and drove up to the lake house to spend a few days with Granddaddy, Maggie, Hunter and Holden. We love being at the lake and having family with us. This year we celebrated Christmas with my family, relaxing at the lake!
On the way up, we stopped at their house in Dothan. I wanted to get some pictures of William and Griggs by the tree at my parents house. It was fun. They were both still kinda sick, but they were troopers. Griggs was just adorable sitting in the big pile of presents, tucked under the tree. William loved the ornaments all over the tree. I love the pictures of William and Griggs with Maggie and Granddaddy around the tree.
Once we made it to the lake, I had a little help from Griggs as I finished wrapping gifts for everyone. Philip and William enjoyed going for a hike nearby. It is always peaceful at the lake. I count the blessings to have a place to go to relax, take in God's beauty and escape with family. I love how we are tucked away, in the quiet, surrounded by such beauty at the lake. I love watching William roam the nearby woods with Philip, knowing they are building their best relationship...A father and his son...(just wish I'd been able to get pictures!)

The best was the Lincoln Log set William got from Granddaddy and Maggie!! Such a classic! Holden spent so much time with William helping him set up the train track and build log cabins. Christmas 2010
Christmas Time is magical. Christmas is full of excitement and fun memories! Especially when it's "Baby's 1st Christmas"!! Especially when you have a 3 year old, who is full of anticipation of Christmas! Well, although our Christmas 2010 (Baby's 1st Christmas with Griggs and William's 3 year old Christmas) was magical and special and sentimental...it was also our year of Christmas PNEUMONIA!! Our sweet babies became sick so quickly with high fevers and such severe coughs. It was heartbreaking to hear them both cough and hack and seem them aching. Yet, they still had sweet, adorable smiles and soaked up the Christmas magic. We spent extra time rocking and hugging, extra time napping and cuddling during Christmas, and those are extra special Christmas blessings. We did our best to not let being sick bring us down. We enjoyed Griggs' 1st Christmas and soaked up all the baby magic of his sweet face gazing at the Christmas lights of the tree. He was a little angel in our arms as we opened presents, just kicking and giggling in between sleeping and coughing. William tore through his presents while coughing and trying to smile. He said he was so glad Santa was so good to him, especially while being so sick.
Christmas Eve we stayed home together since both boys were sick with high fevers and nasty coughs. We missed church service, but knew we couldn't take them when they were that sick. So, we had time together as a family. We made cookies quickly with William and while they baked, we had our own little photo session for our family of 4 on Christmas Eve. William and Griggs perked up enough to smile and enjoy taking pictures, which really made me happy. I love capturing pictures, and really wanted the special family pictures on Christmas Eve. Once the cookies were done, William and Griggs helped get the milk and cookies ready to leave out for Santa before we headed on to take the last loop off our countdown bell!! We finally reached the bell, which meant it was the night before Christmas!! Philip read Twas the Night Before Christmas to William, then we kissed both boys and said night-night to all!! It was time for Santa to come.....HO HO HO!!!
To capture some of Santa, William woke to find a couch full of toys! Santa brought a firetruck, a fire station, a leapfrog computer, binoculars, toy story books, Woody, paint sets, a cowboy hat, new rain boots, new pajamas, a magnifying glass, coloring books, puzzles and new clothes. He was so happy!! This was certainly the year of fire trucks!! William loved all his surprises! I can remember watching him run down the stairs to discover all the fun goodies. My heart so happy. I love the happiness in Christmas morning, especially with small children!
Santa was also very good to Griggs on his very 1st Christmas! The surprises brought to Griggs were a jump-a-roo, a stacking ring toy, a wood peg puzzle, teething beads, a push and spin musical toy, soft bath books, keepsake books, new pajamas, new clothes, shaking musical toys and a cool caterpillar "rain" toy! Griggs took everything in, with wide eyes and amazement. He grabbed at the toys and tried to eat each one...sweet baby was also teething! He loved his jump-a-roo! I loved holding him while he checked out all his toys, touching each one, grabbing them and shaking. He loved kicking his feet while he laughed! Such a sweet moment of the day!!
Another special favorite Christmas tradition we share together is Christmas breakfast. After all of Santa's goodies have been explored, Daddy heads to the kitchen to cook breakfast. It's typically grits, eggs and bacon, which melts my heart!! This year, he stole my heart by answering William's wishes and cooking like a cowboy! He wore the black cowboy hat William got from Santa. That, I loved. My husband knows just how to be relaxed and have fun with his family!
We had such a fun time gathered around our Christmas tree, watching William open presents, while helping Griggs "open" his. William was thrilled with each present he discovered and very appreciative of each gift. He did have favorites, but each present was fun and exciting!! Griggs loved grabbing the wrapping paper and tissue papers. He shook his little hands full of noisy paper and would smile with happiness. One of my favorite moments while opening presents was rocking Griggs to sleep in my arms, while sitting in a pile of torn wrapping paper, watching William play with the toys, wearing his new puffy vest we'd gotten for him. I kept thinking "soak up this excitement, soak up this fun, remember the sounds of your 3 year old loving Christmas morning and the faces your baby is making".
Christmas was great for us 2010, regardless of being sick! We didn't let both of our babies having nasty pneumonia keep us from having a memorable Christmas together, for the first time as a family of 4.
