Traveling back.. January 2011...

Welcome 2011!  January held much excitement and lots of special moments for us a family.  I can remember all the relaxing days, just enjoying my boys at home, waiting for Philip to get off and all the adventures we had like they were yesterday. It's no surprise to anyone my love of pictures, both candid, snapshots of life on the go and the professional ones I am so blessed to have done frequently by my cousin.  Through these pictures, I can travel down memory lane and replay all the small moments and smiles, all the big events.  I am thankful I take so many pictures.  They tell stories that pour from my heart.

As I sit and look at pictures of January 2011.. I am overwhelmed with smiles and happiness.  I remember the excitement we had as our beloved Auburn Tigers entered the National Championship Game.  A game we decided to attend, as our "Philip and Lauren" time after our baby boy Griggs.  The days leading up to our adventure, my heart would cry in the "how am I to be away from not only my William, my big boy...how can I be away from my sweet little bundle??"  Griggs had turned 6 months old and I knew we both would do just fine with the few nights/days apart and I longed for time with just Philip.  I prayed and prayed for the peace to smile and know our boys were safe and sound, being loved and adored by grandparents (first night Gram and Grumps, second night Maggie and Poppi) and the peace of knowing Philip and I would have time with just us.  Such excitement filled us and we couldn't wait to celebrate our Auburn Tigers in the National Championship game!  We had a phenomenal time!  The boys did great for the grandparents, just like we all knew.. They ate well, slept well, played well and had fun!  We arrived home pretty much in the middle of the night and yes, we went right to their rooms and woke them up with hugs and smiles!  I appreciate and love this memory of our first trip away.


Other favorites of those days were the time spent just around the house.  William was still ever fascinated with firemen and firetrucks and we seemed to play endless "firemen to the rescue".  He would sound the alarm, and race to the "alert station" (the toilet paper roll) to receive the alarm note, tearing off only one square and bring it to me to inform me of the "fire emergency in action".  I loved watching him act out play.  I loved how he would tell Griggs all about being a firemen and always wanted to include him in the stories and play.  Some other around the house fun moments we had with Griggs on his tummy, making faces at us and giggling.  He loved his tongue and would smile and stick it out and scrunch up his face and the harder we laughed, the further out he'd try to stick out his tongue!  Griggs also loved his jumparoo and would jump and kick, entertaining himself while William and I played nearby.  William loved to make sure Griggs "had toys" for his jumparoo and constantly talked to him, keeping him involved in our play.  William would build towers over and over, creating huge, tall towers for display.  I loved watching his chubby little hands work, while his face was so focused on the task.  He would get lost in play, so content to repeat his tower over and over.


We also found ourselves outside a good bit enjoying fresh air.  We'd go for walks, letting William ride his tricycle down to the mailbox.  He was so proud of himself, saying he was ready to go!  William also loved his slide on the playground in our backyard.  He would climb up the ladder, hang out in the house then down the slide he'd fly!  He was the typical little boy who loved being outside, running and exploring our yard.  Meanwhile, we introduced Griggs to the baby swing.  He LOVED sitting up in his bucket swing and being gently pushed.  His smile would take over his face and he would kick his feet in excitement.  It's like he knew he was a big boy, like brother!  We loved afternoon time outside when Daddy would come in from work.  It was a highlight to head out and let the boys play.  We'd also go for walks with the stroller, which always ended with William pushing the big stroller back down our road.  He so loved getting to "help" mommy push the stroller.  He would say it was time for his exercise too!


One of my favorite milestone with Griggs was his discovery of "kissing my face"  I'd hold him in my arms, and he'd lean in and "kiss" my chin, actually chew on my chin...but if I said "give mommy a kiss", he'd repeat.  It tickled me and became our game.  Griggs also mastered another huge milestone in January.  He sat all alone!!  He would work to prop himself up, with his little legs sticking out and he'd look up as to say "I did it!!  I am like you"  He was crawling and sitting loney!  My baby was growing so fast!!  He also moved from the infant tub to the big tub!  He loved being down in the big tub.  He would kick and splash, always smiling. We had 2 babies who really always loved bath time and being in water.  They certainly are water babies!!


William wanted to paint something for his room and for brother, so one night, we pulled out the paints and he made some beautiful canvas art to hang in his room and one for his brother.  He is my little artist!  I love his confidence in creating art.  He just has fun painting and coloring and such.  I cherish all the pieces he creates!


We also made a quick trip up to Dothan to visit my family.  It was so very cold that weekend, so William got to help Granddaddy build a fire in the fireplace.  It was so sweet watching him help Granddaddy "feed" the fire to keep us warm.  Griggs also had fun in the jumpy!  Maggie had the jumpy that hangs in a door frame and we kept Griggs jumping and bouncing and smiling!  He loved hanging out and watching us.



One morning, I heard giggles and chit chat coming from Griggs' room.  I walked out of my room to go peek...and I find William standing on the side of the crib, chatting away to Griggs.  When I got closer, I discovered William had dumped the entire toy basket of small soft toys/animals into the crib with Griggs!!  I giggled and asked him what were all the toys doing in the crib...William replied, "Griggs needed toys!  I'm telling him how he can play with toys and cheering him on!"  Oh, my heart melted!  I wanted to cry with happiness at the pure innocent love and true caring spirit of William as he cared for his brother and wanted to spend time with him.  William was quite proud of himself.  He told me Griggs was the best little brother and that he'd always take care of his baby!  I know how blessed we are to have such a loving and caring big brother.  From day one, William took right to Griggs and never showed any other feeling other than love.  I knew they were going to always be best friends.  It would capture my heart (and still does) to catch a glimpse of his love in moments like this, when he had no clue I was watching.


I love to sit and drift back to the memories of yesterday, reminiscing how tiny Griggs was and how young William was, yet how fast they both were growing and changing.  I love my boys to the moon and back... always..

Papa & Mimi~2010 Christmas & NYE!!

10.9.8.7.6.5.4.3.2.1....Happy New Year!! 2011!  Yippee!!

We celebrated Christmas and New Years with Papa and Mimi to welcome in 2011.  It was a wonderful time together, with great company!  The weather was nice, so much time was spent outside playing soccer with William and all of us passing Griggs around, taking turns snuggling.  Papa and Mimi loved on the boys and laughed and played the time away.  Only problem, just too short a visit!  It was so sweet to watch William open presents pretty much for everyone!  He loved the excitement of ripping the paper and discovering the gift.  After the presents had all been opened and inspected, we had fun playing with the new trucks and toys.  William spent time with Griggs, showing him how to "play".  It was a tender time to watch.

We enjoyed our time, celebrated and ate a delicious "Chef Philip and Chef Mimi" meal to ring in the new year.  Also, a treat of company for our New Years Day, Hunter and Whitney joined us for dinner of black eyed peas, greens and pork.  It was great having them join us for dinner.  William kept everyone entertained with his toys and games and conversations.  Oh, his conversations are priceless!  I love how his little mind works... So thankful for that sweet blessing!  All too soon, we were hugging everyone goodbye, taking pictures and wishing them a safe trip on the long drive home.

Celebrating Christmas 2010 ~ Granddaddy, Maggie, Hunter & Holden

Continuing on with Christmas, we packed up and drove up to the lake house to spend a few days with Granddaddy, Maggie, Hunter and Holden.  We love being at the lake and having family with us.  This year we celebrated Christmas with my family, relaxing at the lake!

On the way up, we stopped at their house in Dothan.  I wanted to get some pictures of William and Griggs by the tree at my parents house.  It was fun.  They were  both still kinda sick, but they were troopers.  Griggs was just adorable sitting in the big pile of presents, tucked under the tree.  William loved the ornaments all over the tree.  I love the pictures of William and Griggs with Maggie and Granddaddy around the tree.

Once we made it to the lake, I had a little help from Griggs as I finished wrapping gifts for everyone.  Philip and William enjoyed going for a hike nearby.  It is always peaceful at the lake.  I count the blessings to have a place to go to relax, take in God's beauty and escape with family.  I love how we are tucked away, in the quiet, surrounded by such beauty at the lake.  I love watching William roam the nearby woods with Philip, knowing they are building their best relationship...A father and his son...(just wish I'd been able to get pictures!)

We enjoyed our days at the lake celebrating Christmas with Maggie and Granddaddy.  Time was spent with William and Granddaddy also exploring outside and Maggie snuggling with Griggs.  Holden loved rocking Griggs and playing with William.  I love time together and am thankful we can spend days together.  Hunter came up after work and we all had a great time exchanging gifts.  The best was the Lincoln Log set William got from Granddaddy and Maggie!!  Such a classic!  Holden spent so much time with William helping him set up the train track and build log cabins.  I loved watching them together.  It was a wonderful time at the lake.  Perfect weather, great times and laughter.

Christmas 2010

Christmas Time is magical.  Christmas is full of excitement and fun memories!  Especially when it's "Baby's 1st Christmas"!!  Especially when you have a 3 year old, who is full of anticipation of Christmas!  Well, although our Christmas 2010 (Baby's 1st Christmas with Griggs and William's 3 year old Christmas) was magical and special and sentimental...it was also our year of Christmas PNEUMONIA!! Our sweet babies became sick so quickly with high fevers and such severe coughs.  It was heartbreaking to hear them both cough and hack and seem them aching.  Yet, they still had sweet, adorable smiles and soaked up the Christmas magic.  We spent extra time rocking and hugging, extra time napping and cuddling during Christmas, and those are extra special Christmas blessings.  We did our best to not let being sick bring us down.  We enjoyed Griggs' 1st Christmas and soaked up all the baby magic of his sweet face gazing at the Christmas lights of the tree.  He was a little angel in our arms as we opened presents, just kicking and giggling in between sleeping and coughing.  William tore through his presents while coughing and trying to smile.  He said he was so glad Santa was so good to him, especially while being so sick.  

Christmas Eve we stayed home together since both boys were sick with high fevers and nasty coughs.  We missed church service, but knew we couldn't take them when they were that sick.  So, we had time together as a family.  We made cookies quickly with William and while they baked, we had our own little photo session for our family of 4 on Christmas Eve.  William and Griggs perked up enough to smile and enjoy taking pictures, which really made me happy.  I love capturing pictures, and really wanted the special family pictures on Christmas Eve.  Once the cookies were done, William and Griggs helped get the milk and cookies ready to leave out for Santa before we headed on to take the last loop off our countdown bell!!  We finally reached the bell, which meant it was the night before Christmas!!  Philip read Twas the Night Before Christmas to William, then we kissed both boys and said night-night to all!!  It was time for Santa to come.....HO HO HO!!!  

To capture some of Santa, William woke to find a couch full of toys!  Santa brought a firetruck, a fire station, a leapfrog computer, binoculars, toy story books, Woody, paint sets, a cowboy hat, new rain boots, new pajamas, a magnifying glass, coloring books, puzzles and new clothes.  He was so happy!!  This was certainly the year of fire trucks!! William loved all his surprises!  I can remember watching him run down the stairs to discover all the fun goodies.  My heart so happy.  I love the happiness in Christmas morning, especially with small children!  

Santa was also very good to Griggs on his very 1st Christmas!  The surprises brought to Griggs were a jump-a-roo, a stacking ring toy, a wood peg puzzle, teething beads, a push and spin musical toy, soft bath books, keepsake books, new pajamas, new clothes, shaking musical toys and a cool caterpillar "rain" toy!  Griggs took everything in, with wide eyes and amazement.  He grabbed at the toys and tried to eat each one...sweet baby was also teething!  He loved his jump-a-roo!  I loved holding him while he checked out all his toys, touching each one, grabbing them and shaking.  He loved kicking his feet while he laughed!  Such a sweet moment of the day!!  

Another special favorite Christmas tradition we share together is Christmas breakfast.  After all of Santa's goodies have been explored, Daddy heads to the kitchen to cook breakfast.  It's typically grits, eggs and bacon, which melts my heart!!  This year, he stole my heart by answering William's wishes and cooking like a cowboy!  He wore the black cowboy hat William got from Santa.  That, I loved.  My husband knows just how to be relaxed and have fun with his family!  

We had such a fun time gathered around our Christmas tree, watching William open presents, while helping Griggs "open" his.  William was thrilled with each present he discovered and very appreciative of each gift.  He did have favorites, but each present was fun and exciting!!  Griggs loved grabbing the wrapping paper and tissue papers.  He shook his little hands full of noisy paper and would smile with happiness.  One of my favorite moments while opening presents was rocking Griggs to sleep in my arms, while sitting in a pile of torn wrapping paper, watching William play with the toys, wearing his new puffy vest we'd gotten for him.  I kept thinking "soak up this excitement, soak up this fun, remember the sounds of your 3 year old loving Christmas morning and the faces your baby is making".  

Christmas was great for us 2010, regardless of being sick!  We didn't let both of our babies having nasty pneumonia keep us from having a memorable Christmas together, for the first time as a family of 4.
